If You've Given Up on a Solution

... for the world, are you really living?

It seems weird to ask. But... what do people actually think about? Death? Safety and then death? Shits and gigs? It's a really interesting question. "These are... like... deluded ideas... you can't even get basic business acumen down... how can you save the world?"

I wouldn't know I guess.

Good suggestion! That's a type of freedom!

Like, how is it that nobody has said "So when do we stop? ...Oh we don't?" "But we have a finite planet with finite resources... doesn't that mean anything to you? Haven't got there... 'yet'... uh huh..." like the Ottawa idiots in CGY replying to "What about this guitar player on the street? What about First Nations? When do they get their turn?" "One thing at a time!" "Don't tell me, let me guess. Whiteys corner the market and then it's cornucopia for everyone?" I think we tried that already. You don't remember. Protohistory? Ahistory? THIS HAD POTENTIAL BEFORE YOU WENT MAD!! Ahhh... Mr Anderson. What a guy.

"Most scientists are just onion peelers."

-- C. Burn

What a legend.

Because... if people are being "selfish" (or whatever), then they don't actually think humanity can win... in their lifetimes? ... at all? It's really weird being at a point where I can say "so... give me X money and let me do Y little project that nobody actually cares about, and you can all rate me, and we'll see what happens in a few years, huh?"

But...

Nice chat with the JT. Probably enough for most of one day.

Jesse Owens came home, covered in glory and eight medals after showing Hitler the benefits of democracy and a multi-racial society, and they wouldn't serve him dinner in a restaurant in his own town. What the fuck is that? The kind of double standard is what really pisses me off. Do you know that there are still clubs in England and America where Jews aren't allowed? This is a country of denial. Look at the model airplane industry — they won't put a swastika on a model of a Messerschmitt 109, and that was the national insignia of Germany at the time. So does that mean that in the future, there will be no white stars on the side of a fucking Mustang kit because somebody in the planning room believes it's a symbol of American imperialism? Are any Jews less dead because they won't allow a swastika on a plastic model airplane? No! And let's not even get into what so-called Americans did to the real Americans — the Indians. As you can probably tell, I've had my share of arguments over this. Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bullshit, the maybe just once, one of them will say 'Oh! Wait a minute — I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you.

Good choice for the morning.

When I think about it, suppose this all comes together. And all that research and all those scientists. Why does no one care about what I tried to do. Imagine if it proved useful. Then every place on Earth with an hourly temperature gauge could have a snow estimate. When I say that Mike Smith says that snow cover is the thing about permafrost... what more could I do with one project. And the "this is me, who are you?" thing regarding ontologization. Like... how could I do better than what I created?

Time to go forward, yes?

I think about it all. At CU, emailing all of those people ideas. "You can't email these people, their time is so important!" "Are the doing something similar to what you bozos are doing? Redefining words while letting your ignorance of the poor countries you're supposed to be researching show like a badge of honour?"

Get the offer. Take the offer. Work the offer. Take the 4 for 5 offer.

And then let's see what happens...

The video is just... revolutionary imagination.

"Can't you do simple arithmetic?" Not according to Kipper. But according to Russell according to Magee, that imagination was something else...

You look at this opportunity... and you think "but it can't be..." Just sit in this job forever and go to JB for every fifth year and chart the collision course?

I was going to kill myself.

Pigeonholes, pigeonholes, pigeonholes.

Definitely.

Yeah, why not.

Take me back to that moment.

It changed my life.

Was it worth it? Really? Given what we have today in its place?

Just think about it though: "There's a solution to humanity."

What are the possible responses?

  1. No, there isn't.

  2. Yes, it's to keep doing what we're doing specifically X.

  3. Yes, it's to stop doing what we're doing, specifically X.

  4. Maybe, but what can I do about it?

  5. Yes, and it's up to God.

But, like Arthur C. Clarke talking about being alone or not, both declaring a solution and declaring no solution is equally absurd.

Think about it... you declare no solution... but then what are we doing and why?... or you declare a solution... but then how is it possible that a solution exists now after hundreds of thousands of years of killing ourselves and each other and a small sliver of geological time of existence overall when you step back to the next order of magnitude? And haven't we talked about solutions for all that time with no results? So then why now? And how, specifically? Do we just drift between extremes and evolutionarily find our place? Or does someone (or a small group of people) say "but this is all nonsense and has been for thousands of years and everybody knows it and I can prove it on every plane of existence"?

If it's the latter, who is going to do that? Bruce Springsteen? Terence Tao? Nodirbek Abdusattorov (let's hope!)? Some budding undergraduate dreamer in Antananarivo? It just makes no sense. "Oh this person knows everything", "oh this person is loved by everyone". Then what are you all doing standing around holding your dicks? "Oh I don't do politics." Well why the fuck not? "Oh I supported X for President and spoke / sang at a rally." Okay and tell me based on history how that's going to actually change anything. Or do we go the opposite way. "Oh but it's impossible, there is no solution." Why not? Did you actually think this through or did you just throw yours arms into the air and say "whatever... I have my own life, leave me alone"?

Ah la la la ... la

I'm getting tired. I'm forgetting why...

What a great song.

And the video makes one think of a Bourdain moment. Comfy. And oh so memorable.

Walk away now, and you're going to start a war.

Thought of "no one holds their feet to the fire". And then...

What a guy!

And look at that...

"But I'm told, on the plus side, that the sun will eventually run out of hydrogen."

A good end to the conversation.

Back to walking away now and starting a war...

FB: One thing that comes to mind as I read this is how apolitical existentialism has become. Given where Camus and Sartre fell out over Algeria and Sartre and Simone fell out (a little) over Israel, it's interesting to see how the tone of existentialism slips into one of... resigning oneself to banality almost...

Your mind is racing like a pro now. Oh my god it doesn't mean a lot to you...

The Search for a Method to bring together Marxism and Existentialism. What about something as simple as "Who are you?" As in "..." ...? A good final question... I have some ideas, but it's definitely something to stew. Ada don't talk about reasons about why you don't want to talk about reasons why you don't want to talk... Funny how that happens sometimes...

Jon Stewart: "What the fuck are we doing?" ~Laughter~ ~Applause~ [Apparently asterisks imply italics, so...]

Gospel. The last song. Why not?

But think about it. Four years of this. And then one year of that.

Indeed, "what else should I do with my life instead of this?"

Leave off with a bunch of nonsense... Don't leave me hangin'! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1mU6h4Xdxc&list=RDE1mU6h4Xdxc&start_radio=1&rv=1byby6URf_w

A thought to end the discussion. I am eternally grateful for this: https://philosophyisfashionable.blogspot.com ... so why wouldn't I be eternally grateful for this. As in "this". Right future self?

"Time is only wasting, so why wait for eventually?"
